Release date:2026-05-06 Number of clicks:97

On May 5, Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) announced it has started preliminary planning for the second phase expansion of its Singapore VSMC wafer fab. VSMC is a 60/40 joint venture between VIS and NXP, focusing on a 12‑inch fab using 130–40nm process for interposers, mixed‑signal, power management, and analog chips.

First phase is now preparing for trial production. Samples are expected in June–July 2026, with mass production in Q1 2027. Due to product mix changes and process complexity, the initial full‑capacity monthly wafer output was adjusted from 55,000 to 44,000 wafers. Total Phase‑1 investment dropped from 7.8Bto7.8Bto6.7B, partly because some customers provide their own equipment.

All 44,000 wafers per month are already sold out under long‑term contracts. Strong customer demand is pushing the discussion for Phase 2.

VIS Q1 2026 revenue reached NT$12.332 billion (approx. RMB 2.67B) , down 0.5% QoQ but up 4.9% YoY. Q2 2026 utilization is expected to climb from ~80% to 85–90% .
