Samsung is accelerating development of its Data Sharing Ecosystem Platform (DSEP) , aiming to operate a fully automated, human‑less wafer fab by 2030 , Korean media reported. The move would cut labor dependence and weaken union leverage.

DSEP shares real‑time fab process data with 60 equipment suppliers (with more to join) and feeds all data into AI models for smart analysis and production decisions – including remote fault diagnosis, yield optimization, and defect detection. It also enables new processes previously restricted by security controls.

Samsung is building a dedicated HPC cluster as the compute backbone for DSEP. The ultimate goal: automate wafer start, processing, and testing end‑to‑end with minimal human intervention.

The push for automation is partly driven by recent labor cost pressures. In May, Samsung and unions agreed to performance bonuses tied to profit thresholds, adding incentive to reduce headcount‑related costs.

ICgoodFind: Samsung’s DSEP‑powered unmanned fab – if realized by 2030 – would transform semiconductor manufacturing and labor dynamics.
